What is Budget 2027 about?
Tabled 9 Oct 2026
It is the fifth MADANI Budget and the second under the 13th Malaysia Plan, tabled by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim. It rests on three thrusts: raising the ceiling of growth, raising the floor of living standards, and governance reform.
For most readers the practical headlines are a higher individual relief, lower tax for middle-income earners and MSMEs, a RM2,000 minimum wage from June 2027, and incentives for digital, AI and green investment extended to 2030.
How big is the Budget: RM510bn or RM459.8bn?

Both figures are correct. Federal government spending is RM459.8 billion: RM376.8bn operating and RM83bn development. Add roughly RM50bn from GLICs, public-private partnerships and statutory bodies, and total public spending reaches RM510 billion, up from RM470bn in 2026.

When do the tax changes start, and is it final?
Mostly YA 2027
Most income tax changes apply from year of assessment (YA) 2027, which covers income earned in calendar 2027 and filed in 2028. Several indirect tax and stamp duty items start on 1 January 2027. Everything here is a proposal until the Finance Bill is passed, so check details before acting on large decisions.
